Allen
Associates, Santa Barbara, received two national awards for its
remodeling work during the seventh annual Chrysalis Awards for Remodeling
Excellence. The awards, sponsored by Lowe's Companies and Professional
Remodeler magazine, were presented at the Southern Building
Show in Charlotte, NC. The awards, Best Whole House Remodel $500,000
- $1 million, and Best Historic Renovation Over $250,000 were for
two projects, the first on Hot Springs Road in Montecito and the
second located at Plaza Rubio near the Old Mission in Santa Barbara.
"Both
projects dealt with very old homes, which always present challenges,"
says Ken Kanline, Chrysalis director. "One had virtually no
utility maps to work from and the other was the renovation of a
George Washington Smith house. Renovating the home of one of California's
foremost architects is a daunting effort that only the best remodeler
could hope to undertake successfully." Dennis Allen and his
wife, Jenny Cushnie, flew to Charlotte to receive the awards.
Judged
by the staff of Southern Living magazine, Sunset magazine,
and Homestyles.com, the winners' projects covered all aspects of
remodeling. The entries were judged on overall design, the creative
use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project
enhanced the original structure. Allen Associates participated in
the award ceremonies with remodeling companies from 35 states. "Working
with thousands of contractors, we see the tremendous work that is
being done by professional remodelers," says Mike Brown, vice
president of Lowe's Companies. " By showcasing the 'best of
the best,' the Chrysalis Awards help increase quality and professionalism
throughout the industry." Lowe's Companies has been a sponsor
of the awards since their inception. The
award-winning projects can be seen on the Internet.
