Six companies, from a building contractor to an electronics manufacturer, will receive the seventh annual Green Awards, recognizing businesses and organizations for environmental efforts.

"This year's winners are models of innovation and education," said Frances Gilliland of the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District. "The winners are establishing superior environmental programs, and they're also making extra efforts to educate students and professionals about green practices."

Allen Associates: General contractor Dennis Allen, an avid environmentalist, recycles 75 percent of materials at new construction sites and 90 percent at deconstruciton sites. Recycled material includes carpet, concrete, drywall, metal and wood. ...
