building practices. For more
than 20 years he has taught courses on sustainable design
and construction through the University of California Extension
Program at UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Santa
Cruz and at the Santa Barbara Community College Adult Education
Program. He has spoken before the Advisory Board of the
Joint Center on housing Studies at Harvard University,
the national Remodels Guild, and a variety of community
groups on green building issues. His commentaries on sustainable
solutions to environmental and social problems have been
published locally, regionally, and nationally.
Dennis
is active in community organizations: The Sustainability
Project, the Green Building Alliance, the Santa Barbara
Contractors Association, and the local chapter of the American
Institute of Architects. For the past 5 years, he has served
as a consultant with the County of Santa Barbara's Innovative
Building Review Program, a program that encourages energy
efficiency and sustainable practices in building projects
within the County. He serves on the Dean's Council of the
Bren School for Environmental Sciences and Management at
the University of California Santa Barbara. He created
the Parade of Green Buildings, an annual event now in its
fourth year that exhibits the best local examples of green
building to the public. Most recently he organized a study
tour for fifteen of the community's leaders and activists
to Curitiba, Brazil, considered by many to be the most
ecological city in the world. In addition to his interest
in sustainable land use planning, design, and construction,
Dennis enjoys foreign languages and travel, backpacking,
reading, foreign affairs, cooking, and dancing. |

Cronshaw

Allen Associates 1981. Has managed small - large complex
residential projects, light commercial projects.
Has
designed and built several residential projects in Santa
Barbara, Mexico, Hawaii, New Zealand and Tahiti. Founded
new Allen Associates division "Built to Ship" featuring
simple, attractive, environmentally sound vacation and
second homes, which are built in Santa Barbara and shipped
via container to overseas destinations. Owns properties
in Kauai, Hawaii, Bay of Islands, New Zealand, Santa Barbara
and Huahine, Tahiti. Winner of numerous awards for projects
completed under his management. Currently building an all "green" house
at the Hollister Ranch featuring adobe exterior, all recycled
framing lumber (saved from Allen Associates demolition
projects) and recycled wood floors, on-demand water heater
and hydronic heat system, and non VOC paints.
Currently
partners with Dennis Allen, and chief safety officer of
Allen Associates. Ian
enjoys foreign travel, surfing, designing, weekend building
projects and his family, Anna, and two sons, Brendan (12)
and Tristan (10). |
