Exterior
The goal of this project: to convert a vacant, 1,200 sq. ft. ranger home at Arroyo Burro Beach into the Watershed Resource Center and make it an excellent model of green building principles. |
Interior
Operable skylights, energy efficient windows, and French doors provide abundant natural light, as well as natural ventilation, to cool the building. The maple floor was salvaged from an old gymnasium. |
Ocean View
Photovoltaic cells integrated into the roof shingles provide a majority of the building’s electrical needs. This system was selected over traditional stand-alone panels because of its architectural appearance, its ability to fit conventional roof layouts, and its ease of installation. |
Botanical Patio
The siding and roof shingles are made of fiber-cement, a material that is resistant to fire, moisture, and termite damage. The decks are a composite product made of recycled plastic with wood-like fibers. |
