Exterior
Green building principles used to remodel this home, originally constructed as a barn in 1905, include adding insulation in exterior walls to improve energy efficiency and removing interior walls to allow for more natural light and cross ventilation. Seventy-five percent of the heat for the swimming pool is provided by a solar thermal heating system. |
Kitchen 1
All kitchen appliances are Energy Star rated. A photovoltaic system generates one-third of the total electrical load for the home. |
Kitchen 2
Additional windows and French doors were added to increase natural lighting and take advantage of cooling breezes. Bamboo floors were installed throughout the first floor of the home. |
