Exterior Before
The major goals of this whole house remodel of this1950's San Roque home were to improve its energy efficiency, healthiness, and overall comfort. |
Exterior After
A new front porch creates an opportunity for building community in this San Roque neighborhood. New windows make the entire home more comfortable and energy efficient. Integral color stucco will reduce long-term maintenance needs. |
Living Room
The new cathedral ceiling adds a feeling of spaciousness while a new French door adds warm sunlight to the remodeled living room. Additional green elements include the sustainable bamboo floors and non-toxic paints. |
Kitchen
The remodeled kitchen includes sustainable cabinets, bamboo floors and energy efficient LED lighting in the ceiling and over the bar. The bar countertop is made from a neighbor’s downed acacia tree. |
Nursery
Another major goal in the modernization of this older house was to create a healthy indoor environment. Although important for all ages, it is critical for families with small children. |
Solar
A solar water heating system provides 60-70% of this family’s hot water needs. An on-demand unit provides the rest. |
Icynene Insulation
All exterior walls were filled with icynene insulation - a non-ozone depleting, spray-in foam that fills every void in a wall, resulting in an air-tight building envelope. Its performance is significantly better than other choices and is ideal for a retrofit project. |
