Exterior
Green building features of this remodeled 1920’s Spanish style home include installing drip irrigation and mulch, and irrigating the drought tolerant landscape with gray water from bathroom sinks, showers, wash machine, and a non-chlorinated hot tub. Photovoltaic panels provide all of the resident’s electrical needs from the sun’s energy. |
Living Room
Salvaged materials in the living room include the oak floor, front door, electrical fixtures, and fireplace grill. Fallen trees were milled to make the window sills, baseboards, and the fireplace mantle. |
Kitchen
A fallen sycamore tree was milled to make the faces of the kitchen cabinets and the butcher block. The cabinet frames are made of wheat board, a renewable, agricultural waste product and an alternative to virgin lumber. The client installed a Sun Frost refrigerator, one of the most energy efficient on the market, and restored an O’Keefe and Merritt stove. |
Dining Room
A 150 sq. ft. addition provided more useable space in the kitchen/dining room area. New French doors enhance ocean views and take advantage of natural, cooling breezes. |
