We built the first solar houses in Santa Barbara in the mid-70's, including the innovative Gildea Center, headquarters of the Community Environmental Council.

Incorporating solar domestic hot water heating, three passive solar space heating systems, the first photovoltaic panels used to generate electricity from the sun in our region, daylighting and lighting efficiency, and water conservation together with rainwater collection, the Center received national recognition and is still considered an exemplary green building. More recently, Allen Associates is the only building contractor who has won, since its inception, the prestigious annual "Green Builder of the Year Award" from the Santa Barbara Contractors Association.
